Mahyuddin S
1924 – 1993
Mahyuddin S. was a naturalist painter known for capturing serenity and grandeur in his works. He began painting in childhood and honed his skills under local masters in his hometown. His first joint exhibition took place in Bukittinggi in 1948. After moving to Jakarta in 1950, he studied at the Perguruan Tinggi Djurnalistik and worked at Unilever until 1961, when he chose to focus fully on painting. He gained national recognition with a successful exhibition at Hotel Indonesia in 1968.
From 1969 to 1974, Mahyuddin exhibited internationally in cities such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Bremen, Amsterdam, Vienna, West Berlin, and Frankfurt. His naturalist style conveyed a sense of peace and timeless beauty, earning him a place in major art collections both in Indonesia and abroad.
