Sekar Jatiningrum
B. 1969
Sekar Jatiningrum was born in Yogyakarta in 1969 and studied painting at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. She has held solo exhibitions at Kedai Kebun Gallery, Yogyakarta (2000) and Edwin’s Gallery, Jakarta (2002), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions including at Sasana Ajiyasa, ISI Yogyakarta (1996), Benteng Vredeburg, Yogyakarta (1997, 1998), Purna Budaya, Yogyakarta (1999), Embun Gallery, Yogyakarta (2000), and Nadi Gallery, Jakarta (2001, 2002).
While she has interests spanning performance, literature, film, dance, and music, Sekar’s primary practice lies in painting and drawing. Each subject she portrays carries a personal biographical background and lives within her imagination, where artist and subject share an equal, subjective relationship.
