Biranul Anas Zaman
1947 – 2019
Biranul Anas Zaman was a distinguished Indonesian artist and scholar, renowned as a professor of craft art at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). He was particularly dedicated to developing fiber art, especially tapestry.
Professor Anas was a leading figure in Indonesian textile and fiber arts, and a strong supporter of local-based tourism. His expertise was widely recognized through his extensive publications in national and international journals, as well as numerous books on these subjects. He was also a prolific speaker at workshops and seminars and regularly organized exhibitions. His final exhibition, Serat Jiwa (Soul Fiber), held at the National Gallery, Jakarta, in March 2019, marked 40 years of his artistic journey.
Prior to his passing, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Design and Art at Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM), Bandung. He also previously held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art and Design at ITB from 2006 to 2010. In 2000, he was a Fulbright researcher at the University of California, Berkeley.
