Yusra Martunus
B. 1973
Yusra Martunus is an Indonesian contemporary artist and co-founder of the Jendela Art Group, one of the most influential collectives in Southeast Asia. He studied at the Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI), Yogyakarta, graduating in 2000, and has since developed a practice defined by a minimalist sensibility and a sustained investigation into materiality. Yusra explores the narrative potential of materials by manipulating and transforming their immediate qualities, creating works that challenge perception and reveal new emotional textures.
He has received critical recognition with awards including the Best of McDonald’s Art Award (1994), Best of Indonesia ASEAN Art Award (2003), and finalist placement in the Asian Art Award (2004).
