Hasan Djaafar
1919 – 1995
Hasan Djaafar (1919-1995), born in Koto Gadang, West Sumatra, was an Indonesian painter significantly shaped by both his early training and international exposure. He received instruction from the renowned landscape painter, Wakidi.
A pivotal moment in Djaafar's artistic journey was his visit to Europe in 1948, which profoundly influenced his work, leading him to embrace impressionist and expressionist styles. He held his first exhibition in Indonesia in 1956 and subsequently participated in numerous international touring exhibitions, showcasing his art in countries including Singapore, Australia, Brazil, Japan, and various European nations.
