Gregorius Sidharta Soegijo
1932 – 2006
Born in Yogyakarta in 1932, Gregorius Sidharta Soegijo studied at Akademi Seni Rupa Indonesia (ASRI), Yogyakarta, and the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He participated in exhibitions in Indonesia and internationally, including in Poland, India, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Canada, the Philippines, and Thailand.
Recognized with several awards from the Indonesian government, his sculptures are featured in parks and plazas abroad. From 1958 to 1964, he taught at ASRI Yogyakarta and later lectured at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
His awards include Best Painting by the Badan Musyawarah Kebudayaan Nasional (1952), the Indonesian Government Art Award (1980), and the ASEAN Cultural Award (1990). He created numerous public monuments in Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines, and Japan. After retiring from ITB in 1997, he chaired the Indonesian Association of Sculptors (API) from 2000 to 2003.
