Irina & Andrea
Irina and Andrea are a mother and daughter duo whose collaborative practice combines sculpture and painting in imaginative, surrealistic forms. Both are self-taught artists who carry forward a family legacy of creativity. Irina inherited her artistic spirit from her father, Paulus Suharto (Sie Hoat Ho), a multitalented artist and nephew of the late designer Peter Sie.
Their one-of-a-kind sculptures, crafted from materials such as cloth, tarpaulin, wood, or plastic, often take more than a month to complete and are later expanded by Andrea into vibrant paintings on canvas. Their works, filled with doll-like surreal figures and bright colors, reflect everyday experiences and emotions, realized through a meticulous process infused with creativity, imagination, and precision. Influenced by artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, and Basquiat, and guided by the rhythm of music while creating, Irina and Andrea continue to develop a body of work that is both playful and deeply personal.
