Lee Weng Fatt
B. 1967
Lee Weng Fatt is a Malaysian artist whose work celebrates the cultural heritage of old colonial and Peranakan buildings in Malacca, Penang, and beyond. A graduate of the Kuala Lumpur College of Art (Diploma in Art & Design, 1989), he began his career in watercolour before turning to oil in 1995.
Over the past three decades, he has developed a distinctive practice that documents aging architecture with exquisite detail, capturing their character, atmosphere, and the stories embedded in their facades. His fascination lies in the belief that the older a building is, the more it has “lived,” allowing him to converse with it through paint.
Lee has presented solo exhibitions such as Hang Kai / Jalan-Jalan at the Art Salon, Kuala Lumpur (1994), as well as shows at Joshua Fine Art Gallery (2000), the Art House (2004), and TJ Fine Art (2010).
