Born in 1935 in Bandung, Anton Huang studied painting under Kartono Yudhokusumo at Sanggar Seniman in his twenties, and continued his education under the guidance of the painter Barli. By 1959, he was exhibiting his work in major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, and took part in international exhibitions in Denmark and Amsterdam. In 1969, he moved to Bali, where he formed important relationships with European artists that greatly impacted and shaped his artistic style.
