Tony Ja'far is an Indonesian artist and graduate of UNESA Surabaya, majoring in Fine Art. His journey in art began during his studies at IKIP Surabaya in 1995, later renamed UNESA in 2000, where he explored various media from watercolor and installation to new media art.
He held his first solo exhibition Jati Diri at Museum Empu Tantular, Surabaya (2001), followed by Built the House (2008). He has also participated in group exhibitions such as Over Size Community Holobis Kuntul Baris (Surabaya, 2002), Ning Ati (Batu, 2004), Pra Bali Biennale (Surabaya, 2006), and was among the 20 finalists of The Thousand Mysteries of Borobudur (Jogja Gallery, 2007), where he received the Best Award.
Alongside his artistic practice, Tony once taught at high school before fully dedicating himself to painting, which first began as a sideline.
