Bambang Sudarto
B. 1956
Bambang Darto is a multidisciplinary Indonesian artist known for his expressive exploration of myth, culture, and identity. He graduated from STSRI “ASRI” Yogyakarta and has held several exhibitions, including his solo show Jejak-Jejak Mitos at Tujuh Bintang Art Space, Yogyakarta (2009). His works have also been featured in notable group exhibitions such as Pameran 50 Karya Terbaik Kompetisi Seni Lukis Jawa Barat (2006), Ilusi-Ilusi Nasionalisme at Jogja Gallery (2007), Manifesto at the National Gallery of Indonesia (2008), and Metamorf Warna dan Rupa in Bandung (2009).
Beyond painting, Darto’s creative journey extends into literature and theater. In the 1970s, he co-founded a theater group in Yogyakarta and later returned to writing and performing after a period working as a contractor. His works often carry strong social and philosophical undertones, influenced by his early love of literature and admiration for figures such as Rendra and Umar Kayam.
