Raden Soekardji
1880 – 1950
Raden Soekardji began painting in the early 20th century. Many Dutch expatriates were drawn to his work, and he became well-known as a landscape painter, particularly in the 'Mooi Indie' style. His peers included R. Abdullah Suriosubroto (1878–1914), Wakidi (1889–1979), and Mas Pringadi (1875–1936), all prominent figures in the 'Mooi Indie' movement.
Soekardji masterfully captured the beauty of Indonesian nature, showcasing rivers, jungles, and the daily activities of villagers, with a remarkable command of light and shadow.
