Ugo Untoro
B. 1970
Ugo Untoro is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans installations, sculptures, comics, paintings, drawings, and objects, with a deep reflection on human existence. Born in Purbalingga, Central Java, in 1970, he studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta. His solo exhibitions include Rindu Lukisan Merasuk di Badan at the National Gallery of Indonesia (2019) and Poem of Blood at the Rome Contemporary Art Fair, Italy (2009).
Ugo has participated in numerous group exhibitions across Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, Italy, and Liechtenstein. His awards include the Philip Morris Award, Jakarta (1994); finalist at the Philip Morris Competition, Hanoi (1998); and Man of the Year 2007 by Tempo magazine. That same year, he was also named Best Artist and Work at the Quota Exhibition, National Gallery of Indonesia, by Langgeng Gallery.
