B. 1957
Ivan Sagita is a key figure in Indonesia’s surrealist and magic realism movements. A graduate of the Indonesian Art Institute, Yogyakarta (1979-1985), he is renowned for his haunting compositions that blur the line between reality and illusion.
Sagita's first solo exhibition was in 1988, and his career has since grown to include numerous international shows. His works have been exhibited globally, from the "KIAS Indonesian Modern Art Exhibition" in the U.S. (1990) to solo exhibitions like "Final Silence" in the Netherlands (2011) and "They lay their heads on a soft place" in Singapore (2014). He also participated in a residency at the "Fellowship Artist in Resident-Vermont Studio Center" in America in 2003, further solidifying his international presence.
