    1931 – 2022

Srihadi Soedarsono was an Indonesian artist, renowned for his abstract landscapes and expressive depictions of Javanese and Balinese dancers. His mastery of color, form, and movement allowed him to create works that evoke deep emotion and spirituality.

He received numerous awards, including the National Award for Contemporary Art (1971), the Cultural Award from Australia (1973), Best Participant at the Jakarta Biennale III for Indonesian Painting (1978), and a Fulbright Grant from the United States Government (1980).

Beyond his achievements as a painter, Srihadi made significant contributions to art education in Indonesia. In the 1970s, he was instrumental in developing the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (Institut Kesenian Jakarta) and served as Chairman of its Fine Arts Academy (Akademi Seni Rupa LPKJ) in 1974. He also taught Institut Teknologi Bandung and was appointed Professor of Fine Arts on December 1, 1992, before retiring from public service in January 2007.
