Win Dwi Laksono
B. 1957
Win Dwi Laksono studied sculpture at the Indonesian Fine Art Academy (ASRI), Yogyakarta, in 1977 and graduated in 1984. Since the early 1980s, he has participated in numerous exhibitions across Indonesia, including Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Lampung. Based in Yogyakarta, Win is best known for his expressive figurative sculptures that explore human life, emotion, and spirituality. His major public works include reliefs for the Sydney Olympics, Buddha sculptures for a vihara in Batam, and an Air Force monument in Ngoto.
Coming from a family of batik traders and musicians, Win grew up surrounded by both craftsmanship and creativity. His grandmother was a skilled batik artist, while his relatives were active in Javanese music, shaping his sensibility toward form, rhythm, and harmony. In addition to being a sculptor, Win is also active in music, performing with Orkes Keroncong Sukar Maju and Sinten Remen led by Djaduk Ferianto, and has produced two keroncong albums.
