Sen Pao was born in Surabaya in 1949. From a young age, he showed a strong interest in drawing and received early instruction at the Chanha Institute in 1967 and 1968. He later continued his training under in Bali for three years. While working in another field, he continued to develop new ideas for his art and eventually found the courage to hold his first exhibitions in Bali, including shows at a local museum, Bali Beach, and Sanur.
In 1979, he introduced a collection of 48 works produced between 1972 and 1978 at the Cultural Hall in Jakarta, marking his first major exhibition in the capital. Beyond painting, he also has a strong interest in music, having spent ten years studying various kinds of violins, as well as an active interest in sports. I
