I Nyoman Masriadi
B. 1973
I Nyoman Masriadi is one of Indonesia’s most influential contemporary artists, known for bold figurative paintings that mix satire, social commentary, and pop-culture imagery. His muscular figures, vivid colors, and comic-like compositions create a visual language that is both humorous and sharply observant. His works are held in major collections, including the Singapore Art Museum and the National Gallery of Australia.
Masriadi draws inspiration from cinema, anime, and computer games, interests that shaped him while growing up in Gianyar, Bali. His rapid rise began with a solo exhibition in Singapore in 2008, followed by international shows that strengthened his reputation. He is admired for figurative scenes that place everyday characters in comedic situations while critiquing the pressures of modern life.
Many of his works carry personal stories from his childhood and his years in Yogyakarta, giving his satire a relatable emotional depth. His works are now held in major private and public collections worldwide, including the Singapore Art Museum and the National Gallery of Australia.
