Soeparto Partowardojo was born in Yogyakarta in 1929. He studied art in Bandung in 1944 and moved to Solo in 1947. He joined Seniman Indonesia Muda (the Young Indonesian Artists Association). He participated in a Biennale exhibition in India and received a cultural award from the Minister of Education and Culture in recognition of his exceptional artistic talent. His works, known for their strong oriental atmosphere, are part of the collection of former Indonesian Vice President Adam Malik.
