I Dewa Kompiang Pasek
I Dewa Kompiang was one of the prominent painters of the Batuan School in the 1940s. He came from a family of artists, with his brother I Dewa Ketut Pasek Genjing and his son I Dewa Made Latra also recognized as Batuan-style painters. From a young age, he learned painting by studying the works of senior artists such as Ida Bagus Widja, I Nyoman Ngendon, and I Nyoman Patera, and later trained for many years under I Made Djata. Rudolf Bonnet, who helped establish the Golongan Pelukis Ubud, is often regarded as his main mentor.
Beyond painting, Dewa Kompiang Pasek was a multi-talented cultural figure. He mastered Gambuh music in the Batuan style as a juru suling (flute player), was skilled in playing the genggong, and even made his own painting brushes (penuliyan). His works have been exhibited in Bali and internationally.
