I Made Surita
I Made Surita was born in Payangan, Gianyar, Bali, in 1951. He studied art at the Indonesian School of Fine Art (SSRI) in Denpasar and is a member of Sanggar Kamboja (Frangipani Studio), a collective of Balinese artists. Surita is known for his naïve painting style rooted in wayang puppet traditions, characterized by simplified forms and narrative imagery. Alongside his artistic practice, he works as an arts reporter for the Bali Post daily newspaper. Since the 1970s, his works have been widely exhibited across Indonesia and internationally, including exhibitions in Singapore and at the Darwin Museum and Darwin Parliament House in Australia.
