Qu Yan

Qu Yan is a Chinese contemporary artist born in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, in 1955. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Shanxi University and later spent several years in Europe between 1992 and 1997, where he lived, learned, and worked, an experience that significantly shaped his artistic perspective.
Qu Yan first gained major recognition through his participation in the landmark China/Avant-Garde exhibition at the National Art Gallery of China in Beijing in 1989. Since then, he has exhibited extensively in China and internationally, including in the United States and Switzerland. His notable exhibitions include Chinese Whispers: Recent Art from the Sigg & M+ Sigg Collections at Kunstmuseum Bern (2016), the Beijing Photo Biennial, the Asian Art Biennial Taiwan in Taichung, and Have a Good Day at the Himalayas Art Museum in Shanghai (2020).
