Jim Allen Abel

Jim Allen Abel (often known as Jimbo) was born in Luwu on 28 June 1975. His interest in landscape began during his studies in Interior Design at the Modern School of Design, Yogyakarta (1996–1997), before he continued his education in the Photography Department at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta (1997–2005).

Working across photography, video, and installation, Jim approaches the landscape through what he describes as an “ocular-centrist” perspective, offering subtle, often humorous visual critiques. His works explore traces of history embedded in contemporary landscapes and how human activity, nature, and constructed environments reshape them over time. Jim has exhibited widely in Indonesia and abroad, participated in multiple editions of Art Jog, several biennials, and was a participant in the Bandung Contemporary Art Award #2 (2012).
