Ernest Dezentje

Ernest Dezentje was a self-taught artist born in Jatinegara, Java, and a key figure in the early “Indonesian School” of painting. He was of French descent, began painting at the age of 31, and later became an Indonesian citizen.
Dezentje was a member of the Bataviasche Kunstkring, with which he exhibited. He also held several solo exhibitions in Jakarta between 1936 and 1939. His works are known for their Impressionist style. He was a prolific exhibitor and was awarded a prize by former President Soekarno for his contributions to art.
