Born in Yogyakarta in 1967, Heri Kris studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, ISI Yogyakarta, beginning in 1986. He is recognized as one of Indonesia’s significant contemporary artists, known for works influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat—marked by raw line drawings and text elements like crossed-out or underlined words.
He held a solo exhibition in Germany in 1994 and has participated in numerous group shows across Indonesia, as well as in Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany. He also exhibits with Gallery Lukisan in the Netherlands.
