Syayidin, also known as A Diding, was born in Indramayu, West Java. Although he dreamed of studying fine art, his family’s financial situation led him to attend a technical high school (STM) in Cirebon, where he studied building construction. To pay his tuition, he sold his paintings, an experience that affirmed his path as an artist. He later pursued formal study at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, graduating in 1992 with a focus on Kriya Kayu (wood craft).
Since then, he has held solo exhibitions including Retrospeksi and Peralihan Abad (Indramayu, 2000), The Violin (Tangerang, 2005), Landscape on the Spot (Jakarta, 2008), and Sinkretrisasi: Implisit Warna Syayidin (Jakarta, 2013), and has also staged collaborative performances combining painting with Kuda Lumping and Indramayu mask dance.
