Salim Martowiredjo was born in Cilacap, Central Java, in 1941. A self-taught artist with no formal art education, he developed his skills by working closely with painters at the Ancol Arts Market (Pasar Seni Jaya Ancol) in Jakarta. His works predominantly depict children in their innocence and joy, capturing the simplicity and warmth of childhood life. Over the years, his dedication and distinctive style earned him recognition, including two awards from the Japanese government.
