Dang Phuong Viet
B. 1972
Dang Phuong Viet was born in 1972 in Hanoi, Vietnam, and graduated with High Distinction from Hanoi Fine Arts University. He has received numerous awards, including prizes at the Hanoi Fine Arts Exhibition, the Asia-Pacific Exhibition, ASEAN Fine Arts exhibitions, and from the Vietnam Fine Arts Association. His practice is grounded in modern realism, primarily using oil on canvas, with recurring themes drawn from traditional life and spiritual rituals.
Widely known as Viet Sen or “Viet Lotus,” he has spent nearly two decades exploring the lotus as his central subject, a symbol of beauty, purity, and regeneration. Through bold, expressive colors ranging from vivid greens to intense reds and fuchsia, Viet transforms the lotus pond into a dynamic, imaginative landscape filled with movement and emotion. As a Buddhist, his works often reflect ideas of enlightenment, echoing his belief that, like the lotus rising from muddy water, spiritual clarity emerges from life’s suffering. Viet has exhibited extensively in Vietnam and abroad, and his works are held in numerous private collections worldwide.
