Heyi Ma'mun
Herry Rochwati Bratamanggala | 1952 – 2019
Heyi Ma’mun (April 22, 1952 – January 7, 2019), born Herry Rochwati Bratamanggala, was a prominent Indonesian contemporary painter renowned for her dedication to richly textured abstract art. She frequently pushed the boundaries of conventional painting by integrating multidimensional aesthetic elements—such as murals, embossing, and collage—into her canvases.
She completed her formal education at the Faculty of Art and Design, Bandung Institute of Technology (FSRD ITB) in 1981. As a female pioneer in the landscape of modern Indonesian fine arts, Heyi was notably the only female student among six peers in the ITB Fine Arts department during the early 1970s. Alongside Umi Dachlan, she is recognized as one of the few women artists who successfully made significant aesthetic breakthroughs in the national art scene.
Her professional career was further solidified by her debut group exhibition in the early 1990s at Galeri Bandung, curated by the legendary art critic Sanento Yuliman. Throughout her career, she garnered international acclaim, including the prestigious Grand Prize Award/Special Award at the Cheju Pre Biennale '95 in Jeju, South Korea.
