Erica Hestu Wahyuni
Erica Hestu Wahyuni (born 1971 in Yogyakarta) is an Indonesian painter recognized for her distinctively expressive and often described childlike style. She began painting early, studying under Suharto P.R. and Herry Wibowo at Sanggar Katamsi, and later graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 1996, where she received the Best Work award in 1993.
Ericas paintings are characterized by striking colors with high contrasts and often feature simplistic objects like elephants, doves, and children. While some perceive her style as naive, the true depth of her work lies in its meticulous detail and interconnected narratives, which subtly unveil human complexities. She has held solo exhibitions in Yogyakarta and Jakarta and actively participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Indonesia and internationally, including Singapore, the Philippines, Japan, and Russia.
