Ida Hadjar
Ida Hadjar was born in Wonosobo in 1942 and grew up in a batik-centered environment, as her father served as head of a batik factory in Pekalongan. An alumna of ASRI Yogyakarta, she was recognized as an idealistic painter of international caliber and exhibited widely in national and international exhibitions.
She taught painting at ASRI Yogyakarta from 1968 to 1990 and later taught batik in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her achievements include the Wendy Sorenson Memorial Award (1967), the Canting Emas Award from the Indonesian government (1993), and the inclusion of one of her oil paintings in the Indonesian State Palace collection.
