Dipo Andy
Dipo Andy was born in Sumbawa, Indonesia (1975). He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. His works have been exhibited in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bangladesh, Kuala Lumpur, Bandung, and other locations.
He has held several solo exhibitions, including: “Voice of Nation” at Intaran Gallery, Bandung in 1999; “Muka-kamu-amuk-muak (Serigraph of 500 Faces of DPR Members from the 1999-2004 Period)” at the National Museum, Jakarta in 2001; “Bolart: Football Choreography (Serigraph of 750 Faces of 2002 World Cup Players)” at the Sports Museum, TMII, Jakarta in 2002; and “Mirror: Masters Revisited” at Vanessa Art Link, Jakarta in 2006.
His focus is on the power of mass culture in contemporary life. He integrates various popular icons into his work as part of his artistic strategy, critiquing contemporary culture where superstars are commercially packaged but ultimately represent nothing more than an illusion.
