Dedy Sufriadi
Dedy Sufriadi is an Indonesian painter known for his expressive, text-based abstractions. He studied Fine Art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta (ISI Yogyakarta), completing both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Since beginning his artistic journey in Yogyakarta in the mid-1990s, he has gained recognition through various competitions, including the Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards, and has exhibited widely. His works are held in collections such as the OHD Museum, Nock Art Foundation, ILHAM Gallery, and Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art.
Sufriadi’s paintings explore existentialist ideas through a dynamic interplay of text, symbols, and abstract forms. Phrases drawn from philosophical thought appear alongside spontaneous, doodle-like imagery, all layered within energetic, all-over compositions. Embracing a stream-of-consciousness approach, he blurs the boundaries between language and image, intellect and intuition. This raw and direct visual language, reminiscent of Jean-Michel Basquiat, gives his works a striking immediacy, where words and images carry equal expressive weight.
