Wakidi
Wakidi was born in Semarang in 1889 to itinerant farmers who later moved to Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. He studied at the Kweek School and began teaching there after graduating in 1908. He later worked in the oil fields in Plaju before becoming widely known as a landscape painter, especially of Minangkabau and West Sumatran scenes.
Wakidi taught at the Kayutanam School and was among the teachers of General Nasution and Mohammad Hatta. He received the Anugerah Seni (Art Award) in 1971 and passed away in Padang on 27 December 1979.
