Trubus Sudarsono

Indonesia Indonesia

1926 1966

Trubus Sudarsono (1926–1966) was a self-taught Indonesian artist known for his mastery of realism in painting and sculpture. Born in Yogyakarta to a farming family, he developed artistic skills from an early age, later learning from masters Affandi and S. Sudjojono. Active in Seniman Indonesia Muda and Pelukis Rakyat during Indonesia’s independence struggle, his works often depicted nature, traditional life, and the beauty of Indonesia’s people with meticulous detail.

Trubus contributed to major public artworks, including the “Welcome Statue” in Jakarta, and represented Indonesia in the 1954 cultural mission to Czechoslovakia. He later established a studio in Sleman, Yogyakarta, producing notable paintings of Balinese dancers and national hero statues, such as General Oerip Soemohardjo in Magelang. His career ended abruptly in 1966 during political unrest, and his fate remains unknown.
