Hu Shun Xiang
B. 1988
Born in Shandong in 1988, Hu Shunxiang received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Oil Painting from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2011 and is currently based in Chengdu. Her work carries a classical sensibility alongside a natural affinity for mysticism. Working across painting, installation, and theatrical works, she functions as artist, director, and screenwriter of her own practice, crafting compositions rich in dramatic tension and subtle narrative. Her work addresses both women's issues and broader questions of human existence, layered with literary and philosophical depth.
Hu Shunxiang has participated in artist residencies in Germany and Beijing, and her work has been shown at the parallel exhibition of the 55th Venice Biennale, the Guangdong Museum of Art, and the Luo Zhongli Art Museum, among others. Her works are held in collections including the PECADI-Kunststiftung Art Foundation in Germany and the China He Art Museum. She has received the ARTCLOUD 2019 China SAP Art Award and the Da Tang "Inheritance" Emerging Artist Newcomer of the Year Award in 2013, and has been invited into cross-disciplinary collaborations including a 2025 Vivo documentary and a 2021 automotive brand project.
