Taufik Ermas, a Yogyakarta-based artist, explores the dialectic of space by blending painting and sculpture. His work, defined by negative space, invites contemplation on confinement, survival, and meaning. A graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, he has exhibited internationally at Art Solo (Taiwan), Volta Basel, Art Central Hong Kong, and the Jakarta Biennale, among others. He was also a finalist in the Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2020.
His artistic vision is deeply influenced by surviving the 2006 Yogyakarta earthquake, an experience that shaped his exploration of spatial dynamics and human resilience. Beyond technical mastery, his work serves as a philosophical inquiry into existence, resonating with audiences worldwide.
