B. 1966

I Ketut Sadia is a contemporary Balinese painter from Batuan, Gianyar, one of Bali's most celebrated artistic communities. Born into a distinguished family of painters, he first studied under his father, I Wayan Taweng, a member of the influential Pita Maha movement, before refining his practice with his elder brother, I Wayan Bendi. While deeply rooted in the Batuan painting tradition, Sadia gradually developed a distinctive visual language that bridges traditional techniques with contemporary narratives. His paintings retain the meticulous craftsmanship of classical Batuan art while engaging with present-day social, political, and cultural issues.

Sadia's works have been exhibited extensively in Indonesia and abroad, including at ARMA Museum, Museum Puri Lukisan, Neka Museum, the National Museum of Indonesia, the Singapore Art Museum, the Fukuoka Art Museum in Japan, and the Tampere Art Museum in Finland. His achievements include the Jakarta Art Award (2008) and multiple finalist recognitions in both the Jakarta Art Awards and the UOB Painting of the Year competition. Beyond his own practice, Sadia is committed to preserving the Batuan tradition through education. In 2012, he founded the Baturulangun Batuan Painters Association, where he spent a decade mentoring young artists and ensuring that the distinctive Batuan style continues to evolve across generations.
