Nasirun studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta from 1987 to 1994. He received early recognition through awards such as from Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award and the ASEAN Art Awards in Manila.
Rooted in myths, legends, and traditional art forms, his paintings combine ornamentation, vivid colors, and fluid deformations that evoke a mysterious atmosphere. Beyond canvas, he often paints on everyday objects such as invitations, packaging, furniture, and even luxury items, always guided by his core principle of painting as a way of life.
In 2015 he was invited by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture to mentor youth in the “Belajar Bersama Maestro” program, affirming his position as one of Indonesia’s leading contemporary painters.
