Budi Ubrux

B. 1968

Born in 1968, Budi Ubrux is an award-winning Indonesian artist. He studied at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta and also spent time studying and working in Switzerland. His unique paintings show figures that look like mummies, with no faces, covered in newspaper print. These works offer strong, sarcastic comments on problems in society and politics.

Ubrux strongly criticizes how the media plays a strange role in making people feel powerless. He sees the media as a source of corruption instead of something that should help people see and hear whats happening. His detailed newspaper print style, which often looks like he used different materials, can also be found on statues, art setups, and even cars.

He has shown his work in many places, including a solo show at Semarang Gallery in 2002. Hes won awards like first prize at PMIAA, and was a finalist for the ASEAN Art Award (2000) and Indofood Art Award (2002). Art collectors all over the world really like Ubruxs pieces.
