Johan Rudolf Bonnet
1895 – 1978
Born in Amsterdam in 1895, Rudolf Bonnet studied art at the Hendrick de Keijser School, the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid, and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. In 1936, he visited Indonesia and lived in Bali from 1931 to 1941. He played a key role in establishing Museum Puri Lukisan and, together with Walter Spies, co-founded the Pita Maha Artists' Association in 1936.
His works are part of the collections of former President Soekarno, Neka Museum, the Agung Rai Fine Art Gallery, the Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller in Otterlo, and Singer Museum in Laren, the Netherlands.
