Sambodja
B. 1931
Sambodja is an Indonesian painter whose career began in commercial art before transitioning to fine art. In 1951, he started working for the Dutch painter Auke Sonnega, learning oil painting techniques while creating advertising art.
After Sonnega returned to the Netherlands, Sambodja continued his work as a painter and magazine illustrator. He began participating in group exhibitions in 1962, followed by his first solo exhibition in 1966. His second solo show was held in 1970 at the Asoka Hotel (now Grand Hyatt Jakarta). A notable career highlight was his 2000 exhibition at Hotel Sahid, which was opened by then Vice President, Megawati Soekarnoputri.
