    Dewa Putu Bedil

    1921 – 1999

Dewa Putu Bedil (b. 1921, Padangtegal, Ubud) was one of the youngest members of the Pita Maha artists’ association, which he joined in 1936. Encouraged and guided by Dutch painter Rudolf Bonnet, he developed a distinctive style marked by an elegant palette of pastel hues. He often depicted scenes of Balinese daily life, dances, and ceremonies with refined detail and sensitivity.

His works have been exhibited both in Indonesia and internationally, including at the Jakarta National Museum, the Indonesia–Japan Friendship Festival in Morioka and Tokyo (1997), and the Art of Bali exhibition at the East-West Center in Honolulu (1988). His paintings are held in prominent collections such as the Art Center in Denpasar, the Puri Lukisan Museum in Ubud, the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde in Leiden, and the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam.
