Muhammad Ridwan
B. 1979
Muhammad Ridwan, familiarly known as Mamad, was born in Sulit Air, Solok, West Sumatra. He is recognized for his mastery in painting natural landscapes with a striking realism that captivates the viewer’s eye. At a time when many Indonesian artists turn to contemporary expressions that can be abstract or conceptually distant, Mamad remains devoted to his naturalist style, marked by detailed observation, precise rendering, and refined skill.
His works have been featured in exhibitions such as the Komunitas Belanak CP Biennale at Bank Indonesia Museum (2005), Migrasi Tradisi in Lampung (2006), and the Yogyakarta Biennale Neo Nation in collaboration with Komunitas Seni Belanak (2007). He has also received awards, including Second Prize in the National Painting Competition held in collaboration with Deakin University, Australia, and First Runner-Up at the National Student Arts Week (Peksiminas), Yogyakarta.
