Soni Irawan
B. 1975
Soni Irawan is an Indonesian artist and musician, and a graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2006. He held his first solo exhibition Murat at Apotik Komik, Yogyakarta (2001) and has since joined numerous group shows, including Jogja Art Fair #1 (2008), Fringers Art at Toi Moi, Jakarta (2008), Street Noise at Gallery Semarang (2009), and Fesh 4 You at Jogja Gallery (2009). His accolades include Best Five at the Philip Morris ASEAN Art Award (2001) and Best Graphic at Refleksi Zaman (1998).
Drawing from his background in printmaking and his role as a founder of the experimental band Seek Six Sick, Soni fuses the raw energy of rock music with the precision of woodcut techniques. His paintings and prints are marked by bold, sketch-like strokes, bright unmixed colours, and expressive forms that reflect both personal narratives and the resilience of everyday life.
