Yani Mariani Sastranegara
B. 1955
Born on August 17, 1955, in Rangkasbitung, Yani Mariani is a prominent Indonesian sculptor known for her dynamic and thought-provoking works. A graduate of Lembaga Pendidikan Kesenian Jakarta (now Institut Kesenian Jakarta), she experiments with materials beyond stone, often incorporating found wood and roots to create abstract and semi-figurative forms rich with symbolic meaning.
Yani has exhibited widely in Indonesia and abroad, including at Art Jakarta Garden, ‘HIDUP’ exhibition at Langgeng Art Foundation, and MARWAH Exhibition at Pos Bloc Jakarta, as well as at the Venice and Beijing Biennales. Her art explores themes of identity, nature’s beauty, and pressing social issues, cementing her place as a significant voice in both Indonesian and international sculpture.
