Adit Barli
B. 1971
Adit Barli, the eldest son of the late Agung Wikekaputra and grandson of the renowned painter Barli Sasmitawinata, inherited a strong artistic lineage that shaped his life and work. Growing up in the environment of Sanggar Lukis Rangga Gempol, one of Bandung’s oldest art studios founded by his grandfather, Adit developed a natural sensitivity to art from an early age. Though he never received formal art education, his lifelong experience surrounded by art and artists became his foundation as both painter and educator. In 1996, he began teaching drawing to children and adolescents, pioneering a creative learning approach that emphasizes psychology and emotional expression over technical instruction.
Today, Adit serves as the Head of the Barli Museum and runs the Barli Art Studio in Bandung, continuing his family’s legacy in art education and creation. His paintings, rooted in abstraction, reflect his concern for the balance of life and humanity. For Adit, abstraction is not a departure from form but a deeper process of maturity and exploration. It is an effort to translate the unseen energies and emotional movements that exist behind every human experience.
