Pupuk Daru Purnomo
B. 1964
Pupuk Daru Purnomo graduated from the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 1994. During his studies, he received the Best Painting Award at ISI’s seventh anniversary celebrations and later became a finalist in the Philip Morris Indonesian Art Award in 1997. He has held solo and group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad, including Bentara Budaya, Yogyakarta (1995), Gajah Gallery, Singapore (1997, 2000), Santi Gallery, Jakarta (1998), and the H. Widayat Museum, Magelang (2001–2002). His works are also part of the collection of the Singapore Art Museum.
Pupuk is known for his expressive oil and watercolor paintings that depict the everyday life of people in Yogyakarta and the mystical atmosphere of Borobudur. Deeply rooted in Javanese culture, his works radiate warmth, spirituality, and poetic simplicity. His subjects, such as villagers, workers, and temple scenes, reflect a quiet reverence for community and tradition.
