Pierre Sicard
1900 – 1980
Pierre Sicard (1900–1980) was a French painter renowned for his vivid depictions of Parisian nightlife during Les Années Folles. He was born in Paris and the son of sculptor François Sicard. He began painting seriously in 1924 and became known for scenes of cabarets, jazz clubs, and dancers inspired by the energy of 1920s Paris. His works, marked by Post-Impressionist influence and expressive color, captured iconic moments such as Josephine Baker’s performances and Le Revue Nègre.
Sicard exhibited widely across Europe and the United States, earning recognition at galleries including Durand-Ruel and Georges Petit. Named “Official Artist of the War” in 1944, he later lived between Paris and Los Angeles. His works are held in major collections, including the Musée Carnavalet in Paris.
