Ting Shao Kuang
B. 1939
Ting Shao Kuang is a renowned Chinese contemporary painter known for harmoniously blending traditional Chinese techniques with modern Western expression. He began painting at an early age, using improvised materials such as cooking oil for pigment. His exceptional talent led him to study at the prestigious high school affiliated with the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, followed by the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, where he was trained in Socialist Realism but found inspiration in the works of Picasso, Matisse, and Modigliani.
Over time, Ting developed a distinct visual language that merges the grace and discipline of Chinese linework with the emotional intensity of Western modernism. His paintings often depict elegant, stylized figures rendered in rich color harmonies and intricate compositions. Now based in the United States, Ting Shao Kuang is celebrated internationally for creating an artistic bridge between East and West, producing works that transcend cultural boundaries and speak to universal human experience.
